Book Review: Loving Vivienne by Christina George

Title: Loving Vivienne

Author: Christina George

Rating: 3/5

Synopsis:

What happens when you fall in love with a man you can never have?

Vivienne has it all, a successful writing career, a hit movie, a life most women dream of. The only thing missing is someone to share it with. So when a handsome, successful doctor saves her from near death, Vivienne is certain she’s finally met the man of her dreams… Until she discovers who he is… or rather who his father is. The man who single-handedly tore apart her brother’s life. Can she put the past behind her? Will she choose family over love? Or will she lose the man she feels destined to be with?

Review:

Loving Vivienne is a roller coaster of a romance that features a strong female lead with a haunted past.  The novel follows the “forbidden romance plot”, and while this storyline is commonly used in the romance genre, author Christina George made it her own by creating vivid characters with a tantalizing plot.

I always love a thrilling plot to pair with my romance fetish, so I was so excited when I was sent this novel to review.  Loving Vivienne is a bit of a modern-day Romeo and Juliet story, but the stakes are much higher.  The thrill of this forbidden romance pulled me from page to page, and I enjoyed the vivid plot.  George made sure not to add too much filler to her novel, and I appreciated that.  Strong plots such as that in Loving Vivienne are hard for me to find in many romance novels.

Loving Vivienne follows a successful author, Vivienne, who has everything that she ever wanted except for someone to love.  However, she ends up falling in love with a doctor who saved her life, only to find that he is the son of a man whom she can’t stand.  The novel follows Vivienne as she struggles with her family, her past, and her needs and wants.  Vivienne is a multi-faceted character who I related to on a deep level.  George made sure to bring her characters to life with human flaws, and I appreciated seeing that in a romance novel.  None of her characters were too perfect.

My only critique is that sometimes the descriptions of the scenes and characters were overdone, and I felt myself skipping some sentences.  This detracted from some parts of the story, but I found the plot irresistible nonetheless.

If you are a fan of thrilling, high-speed romances, then Loving Vivienne should be the next book on your to be read list!

Announcing Midnight Society Press

Hello, Everyone!

I am excited to announce that my partner and I have started a new publishing company titled "Midnight Society Press"!  As authors and artists ourselves, we found that we were dismayed with the selection of young adult horror and dark fiction novels currently on the market.  We created Midnight Society Press to be able to publish and bring the world hard hitting young adult horror and dark fiction that both young adults and adults can enjoy.  Our mission is to change the young adult horror and dark fiction scene so that the writing is not desensitized for young adults.

Here is our press release:

Midnight Society Press = A publishing company specializing in young adult horror and dark fiction.

The founders of Midnight Society Press - Ashley Nestler and Jennifer Davanh - were discouraged by the lack of hard hitting horror and dark fiction available to young adults in the current, traditionally published market. With experience in the publishing world and authors/artists themselves, the pair decided to found a publishing company that focuses on edgy, dark young adult fiction that isn't afraid to scare the reader or make them think.

All of Midnight Society Press's books are centered on characters in the young adult age range, while exploring the dark side of literature. Young adult fiction under the dark fiction genres shouldn't be desensitized, and Midnight Society Press aims to bring young adults and adults alike truly unique reads that can't be found in traditional publishing today.

We have already created our Facebook page and we will be creating our Twitter and IG accounts soon, as well as our website.

About the Author

When Jacob Devlin was four years old, he would lounge around in Batman pajamas and make semi-autobiographical picture books about an adventurous python named Jake the Snake. Eventually, he traded his favorite blue crayon for a black pen, and he never put it down. When not reading or writing, Jacob loves practicing his Italian, watching stand-up comedy, going deaf at rock concerts, and geeking out at comic book conventions. He does most of these things in southern Arizona.

Book Review: Shadow Run by Michael Miller and AdriAnne Strickland

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of young adult science fiction.  This is because I find that most young adult science fiction novels seem to dumb down the genre for new science fiction readers, or younger science fiction readers.  But I was excited to read Shadow Run, because it was marketed as being similar to Firefly and Dune.  Unfortunately, this novel fell short of my expectations.

Book Review: When Leaves Fall by C.A. King

When Leaves Fall A Different Point of View Story Ralph wakes up to what others only experience in a nightmare. Chained to a shed, he has no idea where he is, or who his captor is. His memories are blurred at best. As the days press on, he finds himself experiencing a roller coaster of feelings. Hunger, thirst and pain become his only companions. Flashbacks of a happier time are all he has to keep him going. As his situation deteriorates, he finds himself doubting he ever had the very thing he wants most – a family. When Leaves Fall is a dramatic thriller with a twist. Keep the tissue box close for the ending.
